The Internet and the Imaginary World

Any creative work, whether narrative or non-narrative, portraying people, events, or places in imaginary ways is fiction. In its most narrow usage, fiction applies to written narratives in prose and often specifically novels, as well as novellas and short stories. fiction has come to encompass all forms of fiction, from writings to live theatrical performances, films, television programs, radio dramas, comics, role-playing games, and video games.

The construction of an imaginary world is implied by the creation of a work of fiction. The audience expects the work to deviate in some ways from the real world rather than presenting only factually accurate portrayals or characters who are actual people. An independent fictional universe may exist in the context of fictional works.

The Internet has had a major impact on the creation and distribution of fiction, calling into question the feasibility of copyright as a means to ensure royalties are paid to copyright holders. Project Gutenberg makes public domain texts more accessible. The combination of inexpensive home computers, the Internet, and the creativity of its users has led to new forms of fiction, such as interactive computer games or computer-generated comics.

There are many online forums for fan fiction, where loyal followers of specific fictional worlds create and distribute stories. The Internet is used for the development of flash fiction, where a story is written in a flash and delivered through a website, or collaborative fiction, where a story is written in a sequential fashion and the entire text can be revised using a website. A variety of genres are used to describe fiction, each of which is differentiated by a particular unifying tone or style.

Jules Verne's novel From the Earth to the Moon was published in 1865, while Neil and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon in 1969. Historical fiction puts imaginary characters in real historical events. Edward Waverley, the fictional character of Sir Walter Scott's novel, is a part of the Battle of Prestonpans.

The importance of human translation in the modern European languages

When a target language lacks certain terms that are found in a source language, translators use those terms to enrich the language. Thanks to the exchange of calques and loanwords between languages, there are few concepts that are not "untranslatable" among the modern European languages. The problem is that the cultural concepts have no equivalent in the target language.

For full comprehension, a gloss is required. When historians look at ancient or medieval records to piece together events which took place in non-Western or pre-Western environments, they still use earlier approaches to translation. Chinese and related translation traditions retain some of the same theories and philosophies as the Chinese tradition, despite being heavily influenced by Western traditions.

The influence of Chinese culture on the Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese languages is more important than translation because of the use and reading of Chinese texts. The Japanese kanbun is a system for helping Japanese speakers read Chinese. Due to centuries of close contacts and exchanges, Arabic translation efforts are important to the Western translation traditions.

Europeans began studying Arabic and Persian translations of classical works after the Renaissance. Arabic and Persian became important sources of material and techniques for revitalizing Western traditions, which would overtake the Islamic and oriental traditions in time. Sworn translation is a type of translation that aims at legal equivalency between two documents.

It is performed by someone authorized to do so by local regulations. Some countries have self-declared competence. The translator must be an official state appointee.

What is fiction?

Anything made up is fiction, and it is the term for any invented literary narrative. It refers to works of art that do not tell true stories. While they may be inspired by real events, fiction writers only create characters, dialogue and plots from their imaginations.

The basis of entertainment media is story. Romances, science fiction, and mystery stories are popular subsets of fiction. A lot of writers used to work as reporters and short story writers.

Literary Fiction

The category of literary fiction is quite fluid and has been for the last few decades. Even though it is a broad target, Literary Fiction has characteristics of its own.

Translation is not obvious

A good translation is not obvious. It reads as if the book was written in the language that it has been translated into. The translator is not visible. A translation removes the barrier that prevents a writer from communicating with a foreign reader.
